After two goalless draws away from home, the reds hosted bottom club Peterborough, it ended in another draw with frustration about the general final finishing of the reds. The draw wasn't enough to keep Peterborough from falling through the Championship trap door. But for a fleeting ten minutes or so they led 2-1 it looked like they could embarass us at Oakwell, give themselves a lifeline and put us uncomfortably close to the relegation dog fight.
Our finishing and last quarter creation once again proved highly frustrating, with the midfield completely going missing at various times. It gives Mark Robins some serious questions that will need to be addressed in the close season. As we are almost certain of Championship football next season, and fans will hope that we can take a step up and become a solid contender for the play offs.
On the day Peterborough United's relegation was confirmed with Iain Hume's double strike for Barnsley secured a 2-2 draw at Oakwell.
Peterborough needed a win at Oakwell to keep alive any chance of avoiding the drop.
Ryan Bennett's early goal was leveled by Hume, he followed this with an 84th minute equaliser after Tommy Rowe had again put Peterborough in front.
Martin Devaney got his first start since September and provided some nice work and delivery from the right flank.
Peterborough took the lead as Dominic Green's lofted free-kick into the box went to Bennett, who turned well before firing into the bottom right corner from close range.
It took two minutes for the reds to pull level as Hume was given time by the Peterborough defence to control a bobbling ball in the box, before finishing off the inside of the left-hand post.
As the half wore on Barnsley were peppering the Peterborough goal, including forcing James McKeown into a brilliant point blank save from Jon Macken's header in the 40th minute.
We continued to press the Posh defence after the break, but it was Peterbrough who again took the lead after a period of attacks that had the Barnsley defence reeling.
It was looking like 289 visiting supporters would be celebrating a rare victory, but Hume broke through and netted a well-deserved equaliser five minutes from time from close range.
