Barnsley 1
Blackpool 0

Hume 75

-

Iain Hume came off the bench late on to get the goal that sees the reds maintain their play off push, and against strong play off rivals Blackpool. Another hard working display and second clean sheet in as many games, is it all coming together at exactly the right time for Barnsley FC?!

Blackpool could have got back into the Championship play-off spots if they could have won at Oakwell, but on the day, the reds wanted it more, and we got the goal that we worked hard for, questions can be asked about that last ball delivery on the day, had this been better we could have won by a more convincing margin. Cardiff City lost again which opens up the last play off spot for a number of teams, not least of which Barnsley who helped create that chance with the excellent win at Cardiff last week.

On the day the only goal came 15 minutes from time when Iain Hume fired home after just coming on. Until Hume's bagged his third goal of the season the game had lacked quality, although the reds did deserve the win after having the better of the game.

Blackpool are now without a victory on the road since Boxing Day, threatened little throughout the game and Luke Steele was a spectator without a save to make.

The defeat sees Holloway's men miss the chance to get back into the top six after Cardiff were beaten at Preston, and Barnsley's realistic hopes of prolonging their season in May have been boosted considerably and they now sit just four points away of the play-offs.

The Tykes came into the game on the back of the impressive win at Cardiff last week with boss Mark Robins making one change to his side, Ryan Shotton returning to the team after a suspension.

Both sides struggled to settle in a drab opening 45 minutes at Oakwell. But the reds did knock the ball around well in the middle of the park, but couldn't quite get any decisive ball through.

The reds controlled a lot of the possession though, but we were unable to convert that into chances, with a blocked effort from Filipe Teixeira the best moment of an uninspiring first half.

The reds came out in the second half full of life, pinning the Blackpool defence back. Adam Hammill looked the most lively player on the pitch, showing plenty of hard work down the left wing, but often let himself down with his crossing.

We were finally able to take the lead in the 75th minute that we had deserved.

Bobby Hassell knocked a long ball forward for Macken, who expertly guided the ball into the path of Hume, and he hit the ball across Gilks and into the bottom corner.

Hume had only been on the pitch for minutes and notched his third of the season, he hasn't featured as much as he would have liked since his recovery, and its nice to see humey get on the scoresheet.

The goal gave the reds more confidence and we could have won by a bigger margin with Hume, Hammill, Macken and Colace all having decent chances to increase the lead.

Man of the match: Bobby Hassell - never fails to impress for the reds in whatever position he turns up in!
