The reds come unstuck against another newly rejuvinated team with a new manager in place inspiring a victory this time from Championship strugglers Reading. Just our luck of 2010 that we should face two sides with fresh managerial impetus.

The results of 2010 have seriously thwarted our challenge for the play-offs and it will now take a special run up to the end of the season to claim any spot in the play offs, it's now looking more likely that we hope to aquire enought points to get a creditable top half finish come end of season, with the foundations set for an improvement next season.

It was Shane Long's goal on 29 minutes which gave Reading a vital victory against Barnsley but Reading are still adrift in the Championship's bottom three.

Luke Steele's fumbled again and the ball fell to Gylfi Sigurdsson who crossed the ball for Long to tap into an open net for his first league goal since April 2009.

Adam Hammill showed some imagination and skill as he came close to an instant reply with a fine shot on the turn.

Long again tested Steele with a strong 25 yard shot and Jobi McAnuff also went very close hitting the post for Reading.

This result leaves us looking over our shoulders that bit more, and we need to find the form of 2009, and take it to the end of the season.

Barnsley boss Mark Robins:

"It was poor from start to finish, we have not defended well enough and Reading's goal was something you see in the playground.

"The ball's got through Luke Steele's fingers, we then had another chance to close it down but didn't and it was a catalogue of errors.

"Everything was poor about our play and this has got to be a one-off.

"Credit to Reading, they worked hard, but we didn't do any of the things we spoke of before the game.

Reading manager Brian McDermott:

"Today is just what we needed. We showed courage and spirit, although 1-0 is always a bit hairy towards the end of the game.

"Shane Long was excellent, he was really athletic and he won his headers, and there are signs of a growing partnership between him and Simon Church."

"In the past things have happened when we were leading 1-0, but the important thing about this result is that we got all three points."
