A poor performance by the reds saw us take a point from a game in which we weren't outplayed but didn't perform to the renewed expectations of the fans and management. We looked disjointed tonight with midfield seemingly all but missing.
The only decent performers on the night who stood out, where Dickinson (again) and Steele. The rest of the team sent the fans home knowing we didn't deserve three points and lucky to get one in the end.
These are the games we need to win if we want to continue the climb to the play offs, after good work against Blackpool and Cardiff it is two points lost and it was all our fault.
Next game is the big challenge against Newcastle United, we will have a kick up the backside in training, and should come out all guns blazing against the Geordies on Saturday, which will be a better spectacle for the fans, we all know that on our day we can beat Newcastle, and knowing Barnsley we will get something out of this one, partly as the team backlash against the miserable football dished out against Scunny!
Ex red Paul Hayes was on the spot to claim an equaliser to earn them a hard-fought point against his former club.
We began the match brightly enough with Ryan Shotton's header tipped over brilliantly by goalkeeper Joe Murphy, then Jon Macken shot wide, the reds took the lead after Daniel Bogdanovic crossed for Hugo Colace to power the ball home after his good run into the penalty box.
The lead only lasted six minutes when Cliff Byrne hit the post from Grant McCann's corner before the inevitable happened ex Barnsley favourite Hayes nodded in to level the score, and ultimately get a share of the points for Scunthorpe United.
The result keeps Barnsley in 15th in the Championship, with Scunthorpe a further three places behind.
Barnsley manager Mark Robins:
"I don't think it will bring the supporters back, it was very flat".
"It's the first time we have played like that for a long time. But I can't criticise them too much.
"Sometimes you've got to say 'it's another point on the board' and when you've not played well it's a good point at that."
Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins:
"I have tried to keep a small squad of players and not enhance it any further for the simple reason that we have got a great team spirit.
"They showed that tonight. After going behind they showed great commitment.
"We will keep supporting the players. We have players working very hard for each other and long may that continue."
