Barnsley 3 - West Brom 1

All the players in red should be applauded after tonight's performance, they were all 'man of the match' tonight, as the resurrected Barnsley side put in one of the best displays in a long time in front of a passionate Barnsley crowd. Championship pace setters West Brom just weren't at the races.

Mark Robins has instilled positive play into a team that looks a million miles apart from the performances offered up under Simon Davey, on a night when even Odejayi scored two for Colchester!

Hugo Colace was a dominant tower of strength in midfield tackling back and retaining possession for the reds on a number of occasions.

Robins' men started very brightly, and West Brom never really got into their stride, as our pressing play worked all over the pitch, we looked more inventive and players were trying their hand (or foot) at shots from all over the place, you can tell that confidence has been injected into this red machine.

It was West Brom's second straight defeat as the reds run riot. We took the lead through Adam Hammill on 14 minutes and Iain Hume then made it 2-0 from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute.

The game was secured with the third goal as Shelton Martis put the ball into his own net before Chris Brunt provided some late consolation for the Baggies.

Barnsley started superbly and this resulted in the opener. Hugo Colace didn't make clean contact as he looked to meet Jon Macken's cross with an acrobatic volley, but Hammill picked up the loose ball and turned his marker before prodding home with the outside of his right boot.

The Tykes continued to be the better team by far as the half wore on, with the front pairing of Hume and Macken looking very impressive and hard working.

Roman Bednar wasted a golden opportunity for the visitors on the half hour, making a mess of his shot from close range after Robert Koren's cross had deflected into his path.

Hume confidently sending Scott Carson the wrong way from the spot on 32 minutes after Martis had been penalised for a foul on Macken.

Jonas Olsson headed wide from a corner and Graham Dorrans saw a thunderous shot superbly tipped over by emergency keeper replacement Bartosz Bialkowski as Albion looked to hit back.

Anderson limped off injured towards the end of the half, which looked like some kind of pull, and Julian Gray replaced him.

West Brom looked more positive in the opening stages of the second period, as the reds looked happy to sit on their lead.

Roberto Di Matteo's side were unable to break down a spirited Barnsley backline, and Bialkowski remained untroubled as the hour mark ticked by.

Joe Mattock cleared off the line from a Barnsley corner in the 69th minute as the reds looked to wrap up the three points.

At the other end, the impressive Ryan Shotton made a fine block to deny Bednar, and Martis headed the resulting corner over the bar.

Hume was withdrawn to rapturous applause with 14 minutes remaining, and the home supporters were given further reason to cheer in the 80th minute as Martis directed Hammill's cross into his own net.

Brunt's powerful long-range strike ensured Albion at least got on the scoresheet, but it was too little, too late for Di Matteo's men.

A brilliant performance that we can build on on Saturday against Ipswich at Oakwell.

BFCWEB Man of the match: Close between a few players, but if we have to pick one it must be Hugo 'a touch of' Colace!
