Barnsley 3 - Hudderfield T. 1

Local rivals Hudderfield town provided the 'friendly' opposition for the reds at Oakwell today. Huddersfield will provide Mark Robins new look side with a test, having reached the division 1 play offs last season, they will be hoping to go one better this year, and join the glut of Yorkshire sides in the Championship.

On the day the top performer was by far Adam Hammill who secured a brilliant first half hat-trick for the reds. Hudderfield like the tykes had numerous new faces on show in the game, but it was the familiar face or feet of Adam Hammill that steered the reds to a comfortable first half lead and an impressive victory.

He got his first thanks to a spectacular bit of solo enterprise picking the ball up and letting fly from 30 yards to beat bennett with a top corner strike that got Oakwell off to an exciting start.

Bobby Hassell then went close after some good combined play from Butterfield, O'Brien and Lovre got him in for a scoring chance but dragged his shot wide.

Hammill topped his first goal with his second, as he met a cross from O'Brien with an amazing over head kick that stunned Oakwell and the visitors.

His hat-trick was complete on 36 minutes as both he and Lovre combined impressively to split the Huddersfield defence, Hammill went through and calmly placed the ball into the far corner past Bennett in goal.

Hammill had the game of his life and full of confidence had more chances at goal, lets hope this skill in front of goal is the sign of excellent things to come for Hammill in the coming season, and we hope he has made the next step up as he matures as a player.

Next up more local rivals in the form of the blue and white of Sheffield Wednesday at Oakwell on Tuesday 27th July.
