Oh dear.... first game and a drubbing at the hands of one of the Championships favourites for promotion. On what started as an largely optimistic opening saturday, the form from pre season was left to look a little irrelevant, as the reds were unfortunately beaten four goals to nil.

It is the first game, and things can only get better for the reds faithful, but this first result is a bit of a reality check to any of us who accidently got carried away enough to feel an optimistic excitement as season 2010-11 got under way.

QPR trounced the reds 4-0 at Loftus Road to move top of the Championship table after the first game of the season.

The Tykes were strong defensively in the first half but after Heidar Helguson scored a penalty in the 41st minute QPR moved up a gear and the scoreline went to embarrassing proportions by full time.

Jamie Mackie made it two for the home side before another new face: Adel Taarabt made it three with another penalty, Fitz Hall completed the scoring.

Neil Warnock gave five debuts and his side were first on the attack with Argentine midfielder Alejandro Faurlin just missing the target.

Barnsley's first chance followed a corner from Jay McEveley which Nathan Doyle headed just wide, then QPR new signing Clint Hill narrowly fired over with a header.

Taarabt who had a loan spell at Loftus Road last season, had adopted his familiar shoot on sight method of play forcing two good stops from Reds goalkeeper Luke Steele.

The goal came in the 40th minute as Taarabt tricked his way past Jason Shackell in the area and was brought down by Fozzie. Helguson sent Steele the wrong way from the spot.

The Tykes looked to have the equaliser just before half time as Rangers goalkeeper and ex de-dar Paddy Kenny spilled the ball but Shackell's header hit the post.

30 seconds into the second half Adam Hammill strode forward and fired against the upright.

We also had a shout for a penalty for a handball against Hall but as per usual it wasnt awarded...

After these chances for the reds, QPR moved two ahead in the 54th minute when Faurlin and Hogan Ephraim combined and set up Mackie, who fired home.

On 62 minutes Doyle was then caught on the ball by Helguson in the area and he brought the QPR striker down, giving Taarabt a penalty kick which he beat Steele comfortably from the spot.

Helguson had an early contender for miss of the season when he fluffed Taarabt's cross from just three yards from the Barnsley goal.

Hall completed the scoring from close range 10 minutes from time. All in all a bad defeat, but the reds werent without chances. A bit more composure needed in defence.
