NPOWER CHAMPIONSHIP 2011-12
Saturday 24th September 2011
HT: 0-1
Att: 17,836

Birmingham 1
Barnsley 1

Burke 86

Butterfield 33

The Reds once again showed a new determination and strength away from home, as we led at St. Andrews for most of the game and looked to be heading for a brilliant three points. Birmingham managed a late equaliser through Burke which was disappointing for Barnsley after leading for so long, but the Reds away still remain undefeated this season, and a point from Birmingham away prior to game would have been taken with open arms.

Until this game Birmingham City were nurturing an 100% home record, and Jacob Butterfields opening goal for Barnsley FC was also the first to be scored by any opposition this season at St. Andrews. Butterfields 33rd minute opener flew in from 30 yards out, making it two goals of the campaign for the young Barnsley star.

We looked to be sailing to our second away win of the season, until Chris Burke spoiled the party with his 86 minute equaliser for the Blues from 25 yards out. He claimed his first goal for Birmingham since his summer move from Cardiff City. Then Marlon King nearly claimed an unlikely victory for the Brummies as his shot hit the side netting, which would have been criminal for the Reds who deserved at least a point from the game after having dominated the first 45 minutes of the game.

It shows how far Keith Hill has brought the team that we can go away from home and dominate play so much at a place like St. Andrews, themselves part of the Premiership last year, Carling cup winners and playing in Europe this season. But in the end against the battling Yorkshiremen from Barnsley they were very lucky to salvage a point.
