NPOWER CHAMPIONSHIP

Barnsley 2
Crystal Palace 1

Vas Te 7 seconds, 77

Easter 33

Four wins on the trot for the Reds, the new consistant winning ways is turning heads, its been seven long years since the Barnsley FC have had four back to back wins. This win coming about via a brace of goals from Ricardo Vas Te as he gets four goals in three games to keep us within 3 points of a play off place.

< >

The game started with an instant lead with what has got to be one of the fastest goals in the history of professional football, coming with just 0.07 seconds on the clock, as Ricardo Vas Te lashed home a long range effort to raise all at Oakwell... (well the Reds sections of the ground that is) he was passed in just after kick off by Jacob Butterfield releasing him on a run down the left, Vas Te dribbled it down the left wing cut inside of the defender to unleash a wicked early shot that must have been too much too early for the Palace keeper as it hammered into the roof of the net from outside the area.

We may have been guilty then of a bit of over confidence as Palace got back into the game through Easter on 33 minutes. But Barnsley have got more character and skill to back it up this year, and Vas Te was on hand again to put secure three more points and the fifth win in six matches 13 minutes from time.

With the build up to the game, chasing four straight wins, the Reds couldn't have had a better start, it all looks to be falling into place, and with Vas Te, we do look to have at least two high quality strikers who will knock in goals in the double figures each this season, and add to that the services of veteran and by no means over-the-hill striker Andy Gray, who weighs in with goals when called on, and things are looking rosy for the Reds with 3 more home games to come this month. Two very important home ties against fellow play off challengers Blackpool and on News Years Eve against Leeds United.

Dougie Freedmans side haven't won in 12 league outings in complete contrast to the victory against Manchester United last week to reach the Semi Finals of the Carling cup.

Following Vas Te's early goal on loan Newcastle striker Nile Ranger should have made it two but pulled his opportunity wide.

Easter got in between Foster and Steele as the defenders back header to his keeper failed to reach its mark, and Craig Easter quickly made the most of the error to loop the ball over Steele to get Crystal Palace back on level terms.

In the second half the Reds were fully in command, and when Butterfield had a powerful drive blocked but not held by Spironi in goal for Palace, Ricardo Vas Te proved quickest to the loose ball to slot the Reds back into the lead.

The wins see's the Reds move into eighth spot in the Championship going into the next home game against Ipswich, live on Sky on Saturday, but all you are chair fans out there, get down to Oakwell and cheer the Reds into the play-offs in person. We are the 12th man!!
