Following on from the immense performance against Leeds Utd at Oakwell, the Reds went into another local derby, this time against bottom of the table and South Yorkshire neighbours Doncaster Rovers. We have a good recent record against Donny and in derby matches in general, a fact confirmed in the 4-1 drubbing of Leeds at Oakwell in the previous game.

Football being a funny old game, the bottom club turned around the form book to send Barnsley away from the keepmote stadium without a sausage, having been comprehensively beaten by bottom club Doncaster, the result lifting them from the bottom rung of the Championship.

In the end the two goals from James Hayter and Kyle Bennett were enough to condemn Barnsley to defeat, a big come down after the euphoria of the Leeds United win.

James Hayter put Donny into the lead on the qtr hour mark following some good work from Billy Sharp, Hayter was on hand to side foot past Luke Steele. We were restricted to a few chances with the prolific Ricardo Vas Te going closest.

Doncaster secured the points late on with their second stuck by Kyle Bennett from 20 yards out on 89 minutes. Doncaster wanted it more than the reds which is disappointing following the good work and amazing result against Leeds United in the previous game. The three home wins for Doncaster have put a fresh outlook on their season having looked doomed for most of the season, they have now pulled off the bottom spot but unfortunately at our expense. We are suffering through inconsistancy but this does illustrate the strength of the Championship, as you can gain and lose points in unlikey sources.

The Reds were never really in it, with Dean Saunders side creating most of the chances, and the Reds forcing just one stop out of David Button in the Donny goal. As the totteham loanee saved well from Scott Wiseman.

Our best chance landed to the inform Vas Te ten minutes before the break but he put his effort wide from 10 yards, after the hatrick against Leeds you might have expected more, but theres more to come from Vas Te, who has turned out to be an incredible signing for the Reds.
