Barnsley FC 1
Crystal Palace 1

Perkins 86

Murray 11

Following on from good possession football in the last two fixtures away from home, cheated at Leeds but winning at Charlton - the Reds took on currently high flying Crystal Palace at Oakwell, and it took a late bit of skill from David Perkins to clinch a point for the Tykes.

Managerless Palace following Freedmans move to the vacant Bolton job must have thought they'd done enough to get the three points, as they looked solid at the back it took a nice bit of individual skill from David Perkins to get Barnsley back on level terms, with his nicely curled goal on the 86th minute.

Glenn Murray put the visitors into an early lead after glancing in a low cross from Jonathan Parr which they did their best to hold onto with a solid defensive display. Murray could have fired his side into the lead even earlier but fired over with his snap shot, but he was in again this time more accurately in the 11th minute sending the ball past Alnwick.

Alnwick was on hand to stop Murray again has he kept out his back post header, Palace were asking questions in these early exchanges. Keith Hill changed things round a bit on-field sending on Matty Done in Midfield for Chris Dagnall and this changed the Barnsley fortunes as Marlon Harewood had an effort blocked and then Done got a shot in that needed an excellent save from Speroni to keep out.

The Reds missing top scorer Craig Davies needed goals to come from another source, but it looked like it might not happen on the night, as Palace frustrated until Perkins got space to curl in the equaliser.

In the second half the Reds pushed at Palace for a breakthrough and Danny Rose went close to getting it after Harewood played him in, but he fired over. Palace themselves could have secured the points as a cross from Kagisho Dikgacoi found its way over Alnwick to hit the inside of the post and bounce away to safety.

Perkins finally capped off a brilliant individual performance by finding space to curl in a lovely equaliser to give Barnsley FC a welcome share of the spoils.
