The Owls came out on top of a completely one sided affair, where the Reds dominated throughout, apart from the inability to score a goal! The referee gave a dubious fouled goal, and preceeded to fail to account for injury - injury time due to Sheffield Wednesday requiring medical treatment for the last 10 minutes of play.

At the end of the day, possession aside, goals win matches, and we can't score goals at the moment. Wednesday got the only goal of the match as Luke Steele was impeded by two Sheffield Wednesday players leaving Chris O'Grady to fire in from 10 yards into an empty goal.

The Reds pressured throughout, and there looked to be an element of panic in our efforts as the time ticked away for a painful defeat at the hands of neighbours and fellow Championship strugglers Wednesday.

It was a very bitter pill to swallow for the Reds, as the terrible run continues, and things do not look too bright as we approach the busy christmas period.

The Reds hit the ground running in this important local derby, with Stephen Dawson testing Kirkland in goal on ten minutes with a long drive.

Gary Madine saw an headed effort go wide just after for the visitors, then Miguel Llera deflected a Davies goal bound effort wide with an outstretched leg.

The away side took the lead against the run of play as Lewis Buxton delivered a floating ball into the box, Steele got sandwiched in between two players and the ball landed to Chris O'Grady to fire into the net.

The second half was all Barnsley with Wednesday all backs to the wall against the onslaught, but still we couldn't put the ball in the back of the net, its was very frustrating viewing for Reds fans. Llera again blocked a goal bound effort as he cleared off the line from a freekick just after the break.

Marlon Harewood had a strong close range effort also cleared and then David Prutton headed off the line as Wednesday held on and Barnsley wondered how we were going to score.

There has to be serious questions asked about this referee, as he made match changing wrong decisions, and in the end failed to account for mass time wasting at the end from Sheffield Wednesday.

Barnsley manager Keith Hill said:

"The referee gets it wrong and the ramifications of him getting that decision wrong could be catastrophic, the result has been decided by that decision.

"In the second half, we had more than enough opportunities to get something out of the game.

"I just thought it was a difficult match for the referee. He will be disappointed with his performance when he comes to digest it.

"Unfortunately I don't have a second job to go to on Monday and I have to deal with it."
