Our favourite Jamaican, Jamal Campbell Ryce is set to sign to extend his contract at Oakwell, despite apparent interest earlier in the season from a couple of clubs.
We needed to retain Jamal, he provides the unexpected in the way of popping up for important goals.

Campbell Ryce weighed in with some important goals, including the winner at Hillsborough! So, he has earned his new contract, the fans started to get at him towards the end of season, due to frustration that he wasn't being played in his most effective role: the winger position. But when he plays there he can bamboozle any defender (and sometimes himself!) and create a run, which often ended in creating his own chance at goal (remember the goal he scored against donny at Oakwell to spark the best revival of the season).

This follows on from the news that Rob Kozluck has snubbed a potential 3 year deal at Crystal Palace, with a one year extension of this contract keeping his at Oakwell, where he seems to be happy.

So, this season, unlike so many in the past, we seem to want to keep hold of our best players, and look to add players to improve the squad, and give us more chance of competing in the coming season.

Campbell-Ryce joined the reds from Southend United in 2007 and has scored 12 league goals in his 77 appearances.

The Jamaican, whose current deal runs until 2011, has been linked with a move away from Oakwell, with Reading looking like potential bidders.

But Campbell-Ryce has kept faith in the reds will extend his contract with us, he will sign a new long-term deal when he returns from holiday.
