Barnsley sign striker Iain Hume from Leicester City for £1.2m.

The reds have reinforced the weak strike force department, with Hume, a good competitor, the Canadian International scored for Leicester at Oakwell, emerging 0-1 winners, and increasing Barnsley's relegation worries during the run in last season. He bagged 11 goals last year for the Foxes.

Simon Davey is delighted to get the man he has been chasing for quite al while, and he told the BFC official website:

"We have been tracking Iain all summer and I have been an admirer of him since his days at Tranmere," "He is an ambitious player who shares our drive and ambition for success here at Barnsley FC."

"Iain is a big talent who, at the age of 24, is just starting to come into his prime... We know that he will have a big impact at Oakwell and are sure he will become a fans' favourite."

JLWB comment:- Well, at 24 it seems that we could potentially have the best years to come from Hume. Can't fault Davey's player signing form... and ambition, except in one area! No prizes for guessing... but when most of the goals come from Midfield... say no more, but I'm sure Simon Davey would be the first to hold his hands up and say the strikers brought in last term hadn't fulfilled expectations. If we get a buzzing front line this year, then play-offs are more than within reach.
