MATCH PREVIEW:

The first home game of the new year see's Barnsley FC take on Southampton. The Saints are not having a good time of it this season, lying next to bottom in the relegation zone. The reds continue to play good positive football with impressive form at Oakwell.. home banker? Who knows... its a funny old game!

Here at BFCweb we feel that the reds can make a winning start to the new year at Oakwell, and mount a 2009 challenge for the play off spots come May time.

The Tykes are without several first choice midfielders for the game against Southampton. Diego Leon is out with an hamstring injury alongside Hugo Colace (thigh).

Anderson De Silva (ankle) is also doubtful, with Jon Macken, Darren Moore and Jamie Cureton fit.

Barnsley manager Simon Davey told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"Southampton will be a good test for us. They're a young side who like to play football so we have to be ready for them."
