Barnsley 1 - Ipswich Town 2

PREVIEW:
MATCH REVIEW:
Inept is the only word to describe the performance at Oakwell last night, early poor defensive work by a makeshift reds back line gifted for the second time this season a win to Ipswich Town, we were two goals down with 10 mins gone, presenting the team with an up hill struggle.
Rather than up-hill it looked like everest as the reds struggled to get anything from the first half, and if Davey didn't think it productive to give the side a big bollocking after the Norwich game, then at half time if he didn't do so then he isn't doing his job properly. It's his team on the pitch, and they were an embarrassment to the Barnsley shirt and to do so in front of the home fans at Oakwell.
The only respite from the dirge was a brief spell of positive play that saw us pull a goal back just after the break thanks to a well taken goal from new boy Daniel Bogdanovic (which was the only positive to be taken from the night) he deserved the man of the match award, and if the rest of the team followed his example of drive, ambition and tracking back to tackle then the result would have been different.
Strangely enough Davey took the only positive aspect of the team off an replaced him with the highly ineffective form of Odejayi.
Following what is now a string of terrible results and performances it is looking like we are getting the bad form at exactly the wrong time of the season, and look to be getting well and truly sucked into the relegation dog fight. The back four looked terrible last night, desperately missing the hard working Foster in the middle. The confidence was very low last night, where was the lovely flowing attacking football that on a good day provides wave after wave of attacks against the opposition goal?
The early double from Jon Stead was enough to maintain Ipswich's play-off surge while sinking Barnsley towards the Championship relegation zone.
Stead fired his side ahead after eight minutes with a neat, low shot underneath Heinz Muller. He doubled the visitors lead two minutes later, taking advantage of more defensive confusion to bundle the ball home from close range.
Daniel Bogdanovic got the reply for the reds in the 47th minute with a nice finish.
Click here to listen to Simon Davey's comments:
"We need a win badly. Home or away we need a win to put an end to this bad run.
"It was poor start, they were at us from the start, and we didn't cope with it.
"We were poor and weren't at the races in the first half. We have got to be focused and have full concentration from the start."
Ipswich manager Jim Magilton:
"I thought we were immense to a man and we showed a great appetite and a great appetite to defend.
"We have got some momentum now so we just want carry on going and that starts with the next match.
"A lot of my players want to play in the Premier League but we need to show the desire week in week out."
