Barnsley 1 - Notts Forest 1

MATCH REVIEW:

A full house welcomed the reds onto Oakwell for this six pointer with Nottingham Forest, thanks to the fiver admission for the stay away fans. It all ended in a point each, thanks to lack of decisive finishing again from Barnsley. We let Forest back into the game, in the main inspired by Jamals penalty miss which could have secured the points for the reds. But a point each looked fair on the day. But does little to ease the relegation worries for both teams.

Yes we have two games in hand, but these are both away, and we have to pull out a performance at Bramall lane of Tuesday. We know we can do it, and we have to do it for Iain Hume... will the blades dare to play Chris Morgan for this one? It is a fixture that the reds will need no help building up for, with the added element in the mix of the injustice of the terrible injury received by Hume in the fixture at Oakwell earlier in the season. And the FA's pathetically inept ruling on the incident.

Jamal Campbell-Ryce experienced ecstacy and agony as he scored our goal and then missed a decisive penalty as the reds can only draw 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

The Tykes winger got the opener seconds after the half-time break as he headed home his eighth goal of the season, before missing a chance to double the home side's lead at Oakwell from the spot on 57th minutes, his tame kick was saved by Iain Turner.

This proved costly as Robert Earnshaw rifled home a low shot to give Forest a glimmer of hope.

Neither side could get a winner in a tense and hard-fought encounter which was never high on quality and only really ignited after the break.

In the seventh minute Chris Cohen found Isaiah Osbourne down the left flank but his cross was awful and the opportunity spurned.

That set the tone for a familiar pattern with the visitors' attack and moments later Nathan Tyson showed impressive pace to break clear down the left flank but the cross was horriblly over hit.

Barnsley offered a fleeting threat in the 11th minute when Campbell-Ryce made the space to fire a low right-foot shot into Turner's arms from 25 yards.

Forest could have opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Blackstock's touch set Tyson free down the left wing and his low cross was fired over by Earnshaw.

Barnsley striker Jon Macken was booked midway through the half for a late lunge on Forest left-back Joel Lynch.

Later missing a chance in front of goal, a deep cross from the right was hooked into his path by Barnsley left-back Rob Kozluk but Macken's left-foot shot flew high over the crossbar from the edge of the six-yard box.

Seconds after the restart Campbell-Ryce belied his 5ft 7in frame to rise highest and head home from the edge of the six-yard box. Jamal celebrated by whipping off his shirt and receiving a booking for his indiscretion before risking a second yellow by kissing referee Lee Probert.

The goal should have filled Campbell-Ryce with confidence but he was anything but when Wes Morgan fouled Andranik Teymourian to give Barnsley a penalty in the 57th minute.

The outstanding Andranik and man of the match on the day wanted to take the kick but Campbell-Ryce begged him for the ball and perhaps wished he had not as his weak right-foot shot was repelled by Turner to his left.

Earnshaw, who fired against the bar in the 51st minute, then showed outstanding finishing skills with a low right-foot shot from 10 yards after connecting with Osbourne's cross to ensure the honours ended even.

Leaving the reds needing to convert games in hand into points on the board to ensure safety, but our fate is so far in our own hands.

Listen to Simon Davey's comments on the match

Barnsley boss Simon Davey on Billy Davies' pre-match comments:

"What he said was bordering on bringing the game into disrepute. We are very upset at the way things have happened.

"He's asked his players to emulate a player (Chris Morgan) that has come here and put one of my players (Iain Hume) in hospital and has been out for the season.

"For me, it's very unprofessional for a manager to do something like that."
