Barnsley 2 - QPR 1

MATCH REVIEW:
What a transformation by Barnsley FC, tranformed by the new front line, and the supply and work rate of the midfield behind them. Adam Hammill put in a very impressive full home debut, and rightly received a long standing ovation from the reds fans as he was substituted late on.
Michael Mifsud who was brought down early on by the last defender on the edge of the QPR box, left Oakwell asking why is the QPR player still on the pitch! we succeeded despite suffering another APPALLING referee, Mifsud later teed up strike partner Daniel Bogdanovic to head in Barnsley's opener, Damien Delaney got QPR temporarily back in it as he nodded home a leveller.
But a stylish and newly exciting Barnsley won it before the break as Anderson de Silva pounced on a loose ball in the box to rifle his shot home.
Adam Hammill and Michael Mifsud both went close in the second half as the Tykes easily held on for all three points.
On top of Hammills exciting display, Bogdanovic was impressive as he notched his second in Barnsley colours... expect more from this man, who scored 31 goals last term... in Bulgaria, but still 31 goals.
Anderson de Silva struck the winner for a rampant Barnsley as QPR's fading play-off hopes were dented at Oakwell.
Daniel Bogdanovic gave the Tykes the lead in the 26th minute only for Damien Delaney to bring the visitors level soon after.
Anderson De Silva was on target two minutes before half time as Barnsley FC made it seven points from the last nine available.
We started the stronger with the South American pairing of Hugo Colace and De Silva combining well in the midfield engine room to keep the ball moving forward in long spells of positive play, in direct contrast to the efforts against Charlton the week before.
It was the Brazilian De Silva who created the first opening as his ball picked out pacy Michael Mifsud, who turned well but then blazed over the crossbar.
The pair combined again on 15 mins, with Damion Stewart forced to bring down Mifsud right on the edge of the area as he turned on to De Silva's pass.
Argentinian midfielder Colace sent the resulting free-kick into the wall.
Wayne Routledge looked the most dangerous player for QPR, Dexter Blackstock twice wasted chances Routledge created.
When Blackstock did get his timing right, he went close to scoring, turning Heidar Helguson's header inches wide under pressure from Dennis Souza.
Barnsley then got the reward for all their early work in the 26th minute.
Mifsud crossed from the left for fellow loan striker Bogdanovic to rise and head the ball over Radek Cerny and into the far corner of the net.
QPR had done little to threaten Heinz Muller's goal but they were level in the 35th minute when Matteo Alberti's cross found the head of Delaney who beat the German goalkeeper at the near post.
Barnsley again regained the lead two minutes before the break as De Silva pounced on a loose ball inside the area to rifle in a powerful low shot and send his side in ahead at the break.
Adam Hammill brought the second half to life six minutes after the restart, racing down the left wing with a tricky run into the area to force Cerny into a good save low down.
QPR introduced ex-Real Madrid man Jordi Lopez to make his debut in the 65th minute, replacing Alberti, but they could do little about our almost total domination in midfield.
Mifsud had a chance to kill the game in the 74th minute when a lovely little through-ball from De Silva found his run, but the shot from just inside the area was deflected for a corner.
QPR could create nothing in open play, and Kaspars Gorkss headed wide with a rare opening from Routledge's free-kick in the 78th minute.
When Lopez dragged a shot wide with two minutes to go, QPR saw their last chance to get anything from the game go with it.
Barnsley manager Simon Davey:
Listen to Simon Davey's comments on the match
"There was only one team in it in the second half and we were always on the front foot. We won every challenge, which was good to see.
"QPR could not handle the pace of our game. It is nice to perform well but the three points are all that were important. We have picked up seven points from nine available."
