Swansea City 2 - Barnsley 2

MATCH PREVIEW :

The tykes look amazing for 60 odd minutes of the game, pull away with a 0-2 lead, but go missing for last twenty, culminating in a dissapointing last gasp equaliser for the swans. Similar to the Burnley match we can look stunning for large chapters of a game, only to let silly mistakes creep in towards the end.
Still, it is a point away from home, but it should have been three!

Jason Scotland's inspired the welsh fight back as Swansea came from two goals behind to earn a home point against Barnsley.

Barnsley FC had gone in front after the break with a goal from the impressive Jon Macken's, followed by a penalty from Jamal Campbell-Ryce, before Scotland pulled a goal back midway through the second half.

Later, with four minutes of injury time on the clock the reds lapsed at the last minute to let the Trinidad and Tobago striker in with 94 minutes on the clock to earn his side a point, and shock the Barnsley fans, Barnsley team and manager Simon Davey, who was looking at a successful first visit to his home town club.

Swansea were kept at bay on a number of occasions by the brilliance of Barnsley keeper Heinz Muller who displayed the brilliant form that saw him linked with a move to Arsenal last season.

In an good first half, both sides created a number of opportunities but found both keepers in fine form.

Swansea being the home side were frustrated, as our big German produced a series of amazing saves, including a fine double save from Thomas Butler and Gorka Pintado.

The Swans were missing their key midfielder Darren Pratley who was suspended - but they started brightly and Owain Tudur-Jones wasted a fine early chance when he fired his shot over after Dennis Souza had blocked Butler's shot.

The reds were were very lively, and we could have taken the lead when Miguel Mostto got in and forced a fine one-handed save from Dorus De Vries with a nice curling shot.

The home side still looked dangerous, with Mark Gower sliding his shot just wide following a flick from Scotland.

Barnsley remained a threat and the increasingly impressive Hugo Colace forced another good save from De Vries with his free-kick, but Swansea ended the half as they started, with Jordi Gomez and Pintado firing wide, while Muller peformed his heroics yet again, with a stunning save to deny Butler from close-range and Pintado on the rebound.

The reds raced dramatically to a two goal lead after the break, within the first eight minutes of the half.

The opener came from a counter-attack, as Campbell-Ryce with a characteristic charge struck a shot that De Vries could only parry, leaving Macken as Johnny-on-the-spot with the easy task to clear up from close reange for a 48th minute opener and his sixth of the season.

Swansea on the back foot, Barnsley dealt them a further blow, adding a second five minutes later as Campbell-Ryce fired home his penalty after Williams blocked his corner with his hand. Making it four this season for the ever delightful Jamal!

There wasn't as much as a whimper from swansea and we could have gone even further ahead, with a now fully firing confident Campbell-Ryce going close with an effort from the edge of the area.

Swansea managed to haul themselves back into the game on 66 minutes, and there was little the defence could do to stop it, as Scotland got on the end of Joe Allen's pass and rifled a fine 25-yarder past Muller for his sixth goal of the season.

Given a boost with the goal, Swansea began to surge forward to the Barnsley goal and Muller was again brilliant as he denied Gomez and Butler in quick succession, and Allen and Pintado also fired shots wide.

Stephen Foster then blocked a Scotland shot as Swansea pinned us in our own half, yet when it looked as though we might hold on and keep them out, but sadly for us Scotland struck again from just inside the area, for a last gasp equaliser for Swansea.

Overall, the reds where impressive for most of this game, more of the same from the lads at Wolves on Saturday... that will be a hard test for our boys.
