Wolves strengthened their position at the top of the Championship with victory at fellow high flyers Cardiff City as Reading enjoyed a good win at promotion rivals Bristol City.
Burnley and Sheffield United built on their spots in the top six with 2-0 home wins over Norwich City and Plymouth Argyle respectively.
Blackpool and Southampton showed good spirit in comeback wins away from home and Ipswich Town overcame managerless Queens Park Rangers.
Doncaster Rovers' search for a win goes on, while Barnsley won convincingly at fellow strugglers Charlton Athletic and Crystal Palace were held by Sheffield Wednesday.
Dave Jones was unable to put one over his former club as Cardiff lost 2-1 at home to leaders Wolves , who scored twice in the opening 10 minutes through Chris Iwelumo and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.
